Battle of the Bands 2020

Welcome to Rock and Roll San Diego’s Inaugural Virtual Battle of the Bands! The competition will be fierce as bands from all over will battle it out on livestream.

Live competition starts on October 17th, 2020.

Registration begins on September 16, 2020 and ends on October 24th, 2020.

Here’s what you get:

  • The top 4 “Ultimate Winner” bands will be receive our Silver Live Streaming Package (Valued at $1800) & professional band photo shoot (valued at $400) for a total package valued at $2200! The winner’s prize streams will be performed on January 2, 2021 to kick in the New Year!

  • The Silver Live Streaming package includes:

    • 1 Hour Live Stream

    • Our Hendrix Hall Stage, Room, & Lights

    • Full sound check by a World Class Audio Engineer

    • 1-Audio Engineer

    • 1-Lighting Operator/Director

    • 1-World Class Video Director/Switcher

    • Multiple static camera angles including drum cameras- live mixed

    • Additional 2 X Tripod cameras with operators

    • Stream sent to multiple platforms of your choice (Facebook, Twitch, You Tube …)

    • Full HD Recording of the Stream on USB

  • The Ultimate winner will be announced on January 2nd during the show and receive an additional prize TBA soon. (and bragging rights)

  • All contestants will receive their chosen song streamed at broadcast quality through our FB and multiple platforms to be viewed by audiences world wide! And for just $25 you can walk away with your HD music video on USB! (Valued at $300)

    • Gain Exposure! Performances will be viewed and judged by local industry icons and experts in radio, press, record label, and performance.

    • In addition, ALL bands who enter will receive 15% off any rehearsal booked until December 31, 2020. Bundle that with our already deal friendly “band cards” and you can rehearse for your competition on the cheap. We got you covered!

Entry Guidelines

Battle of the Bands 2020 is…

Open to all bands (minimum 2 people)

Open to anyone who wants to enter. All ages allowed. (Contestants under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian to enter.) Employees or family members of Rock and Roll San Diego are not eligible to enter.

Registration period begins on September 16th, 2020.

All entries, submissions and registrations, must be submitted by October 24th, 2020.

Bands must be available to perform their song via live stream from Rock and Roll San Diego on any of the following Saturdays: October 17, 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21, December 5, 12, 19.

  • If there are any scheduling conflicts, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you with a date that works for you.

How To Enter:

  1. Fill out the entry form above

    1. Send a video demo of the song that the band will be performing along with a bio of the band and why you want to win the Battle of the Bands 2020.

    2. You may also send a DropBox or Hightail link to joel@rockandrollsandiego.com

  2. Pay a $99 non-refundable Battle of the Bands 2020 Registration fee

  3. Sign a Video Release form (located at https://www.dropbox.com/s/tp0t7n56mndtay3/rrsd-video-release-form.pdf?dl=0) and email back to info@rockandrollsandiego.com.

Rules & Regulations

Rock and Roll San Diego assigns judges who will listen to and view performances and grade accordingly.

Winner will be determined by:

  • 50% - Expert Music Panel of Judges

  • 25% - Popular Vote

  • 25% - Social Media Engagement

Contestants will be judged by a panel of industry professionals based on the following criteria: Musicianship, Originality, Quality of Sound and Showmanship.

Contestants will be selected and invited to perform on a livestream at Rock and Roll San Diego on any of the following Saturdays: October 17, 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21, December 5, 12, 19

Each band will perform 1 song.

  • The Final Four to perform their winning 1 hour live stream on our New Year’s weekend show, January 2nd.

  • The Ultimate winner will be announced during the show on New Year’s weekend show on January 2, 2021.

Each competing band receives 15% off rehearsal room bookings until December 31, 2020.

All songs performed by the Artists during the contest, attributed to the artists in any media, or used while the band is participating in the contest (original and/or cover songs) must not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, or defame or inside the publicity or privacy rights, of any third party, living or deceased. Creative Materials may not contain “sampling” from other songs, music, sound effects, or any other elements in which the Artists do no have the necessary rights to, title and interest, including copyright.

Prizes include:

  • The top 4 Ultimate Winner bands will be showcased through a livestreaming package (Valued at $1,800/each) to be performed on January 2, 2021 (New Year’s weekend show - Yay!)

  • Professional Band Photo Shoot (Valued at $400)

    1. If a band is unable to perform on New Year’s weekend 2021, that performance slot will be given to the next highest performing slot

  • The livestreaming packages will include:

    1. Our Hendrix Hall Stage, Room, & Lights

    2. Full sound check by a World Class Audio Engineer

    3. 1-Audio Engineer

    4. 1-Lighting Operator/Director

    5. 1-World Class Video Director/Switcher

    6. Multiple static camera angles including drum cameras- live mixed

    7. Additional 2 X Tripod cameras with operators

    8. Stream sent to multiple platforms of your choice (Facebook, Twitch, You Tube …)

    9. Full HD Recording of the Stream on USB

  • The Ultimate Winner will receive all the glory, bragging rights, and additional prizes TBA soon.
